Wesley vs. The DCEU--Aquaman 2 *SERIES FINALE*
"This is the way the world ends/Not with a bang, but a whimper"--TS Eliot, "The Hollow Men" We made it, folks. The final film of the Zach Snyder-started DC Extended Universe is upon us and give us one last ride. It has been an up and down for DC, but 2023 was the most down year ever for them. I first started this series in 2016 when the discourse really took off thinking it was the climax, but in actuality it was only the beginning. There were still twelve movies and a TV show to be included yet. When I reviewed the Whedon Cut of Justice League, it was not the end of the franchise as I had predicted, but it was the beginning of the end. People started to take DC less seriously and the old guard left, including the unofficial master of ceremonies Zach Snyder. While the movies improved in some cases (Blue Beetle, THE Suicide Squad) they were less financially successful. One film in the franchise was even deleted from history before it was ever seen by anyone, which meant it could

"My destiny was before me, and I hesitated...and a universe died."--Alternate Universe Matoro, BIONICLE: The Kingdom Around the release of this movie, DC was kind of at a crossroads. A string of flops and new management at Warner limited what movies they could put out. James Gunn, fresh off his success with The Suicide Squad, decided to start all over again with a new Superman and Batman movie. Plus, with Joker and The Batman being standalone hits, people just seem less interested in shared universes. The key to reboot seemed to be to push the Flashpoint storyline from the comics to reset the universe. Batgirl was cancelled and The Flash, in spite of bad press and all kinds of scandals involving its star, got released. Needless to say, DC bet on the wrong horse. In this movie, The Flash discovers time travel almost by accident, rushing around his childhood home and determining what he must do to prevent the death of his mother. Despite Batman's warnings, he breaks the time-space

“Families are messy. Immortal families are eternally messy. Sometimes the best we can do is to remind each other that we’re related for better or for worse…and try to keep the maiming and killing to a minimum.” --Rick Riordan, the Sea of Monsters (said by Hermes) Shazam: Fury of the Gods is sheer fun. It may not be the most robust or structured of DC's catalog, but it does not need to be. This is a throwback to the more fun era of superheroes, where stakes are just high enough to keep you interested and the characters are fun and memorable. There are complaints with this movie I understand, but I don't care. I still had fun with it. This story picks up with the last one. Billy is balancing his life with being Shazam, a new villain threatens the world, and the whole Shazam family comes together to stop it. Simple plot, simple direction, simple execution. All is well. I will say the exposition and story beats went on far too long for my liking, but in general, it kept the tone and

I Saw the SpongeBob Musical...
I saw this performance live in West Virginia. My critique will be based around that performance, but all cast photos are from other performances.
I have seen the light. An idea people never thought would work ended up being amazing. SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical managed to be funny, heartfelt, charming, and embody all the best traits of the franchise in one two-hour package. It is able to be funny and draw the audience in without any prior knowledge of the series. There is enough humor and wacky moments for kids, and it feels nostalgic and lively enough for adults. This musical realizes it has its own story, but it is first and foremost

"Let me explain something to you, Dr. Melfin: I know I may look like the ultimate career woman, but all this, it means nothing to me. I'm unfulfilled. The Joker and I always wanted kids. Me and my Mr. J, we would have had such beautiful children. My green eyes and his green hair. Instead, the best I could do was to have you custom-make this baby for me and you lost him"--Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey (The 2002-03 TV Series)
Birds of Prey is a film trying to break the mold of DC even further while also turning one of its earlier characters into a breakout star. The end result...almost works. The final product is problematic in tone and setup, a

My Experience with The Eye of Argon...
This is my reading of The Eye of Argon by Jim Theis. Published in 1970, it has a reputation as one of the worst stories ever written. With many cliches, graphic content, and several flagrant punctuation errors, it has become infamous for its quality. Ever since it was published, reading it has sort of become a parlor game, to see how far you can go without laughing. This ridicule has all come at the expense of the author, who never even received royalties from it.
With the COVID-19 panic forcing people inside, many have decided to pass the time by doing humorous readings such as this. Though my job is essential enough not to be quarantined

Every Episode of MLP: FiM Season 1 Reviewed!
Greetings, everypony, and welcome to the first installment of Every Episode of MLP: FiM Reviewed! Here, we take a look at the very first season of the show, and see whether or not it was a good start to the series!
Before we start, I'd like to give a reminder of how the rating system for this particular series is going to work. Each episode will be given two separate ratings: One for the objective merits of the episode(Good, Meh, Horseshit(with DROWN IT IN GAK! for the especially bad ones) and one for my personal enjoyment of the episode(a numerical score from 1 to 5). I thought it would be an interesting way to do it, considering that somet

Top 5 Worst Animated Movies of 2019
Sup Everyone! JIMATION Here with another list of Animated films from the prior year.
Real quick, for those wondering why I didn't do one for 2018, it's because my best list would've pretty much been all the Oscar Nominations that year-complete with the winner Spiderverse being Number 1-and there wasn't a lot of material for the "Worst" side of things either... (Sherlock Gnomes is the only Wide Release I've heard of that could be considered ANY Kind of "Bad" and even when scraping for the bottom of the barrel, the only things remotely worth putting on a list would be Duck Duck Goose or a Vanguard Animations film called Charming, everything el
